Katie’s Take on Treatment

“It’s so hard to live life to the fullest when anxiety is an obstacle. Seeking treatment can be a difficult thing to do, but a supportive therapist can help you learn that you have what it takes to tolerate and overcome uncomfortable emotions. I’m honored to be able to guide patients toward a fuller, happier life in which they are no longer limited by anxiety.”

Approach to Therapy

Katie values a collaborative and genuine therapeutic relationship. Using warmth and empathy, she works to create a space in which patients are able to learn and confront their fears at their own pace. She takes the time to ensure that patients understand and feel comfortable with the therapeutic process. Her approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and integrates aspects of other systems, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She uses evidence-based methods to inform a treatment plan that fits the individual patient’s needs. Katie’s goal is to help patients develop the skills they need to live authentic, fulfilling lives while managing anxiety effectively.

Experience and Training

Katie graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and religious studies. She then received her master’s degree in clinical psychology at Northern Illinois University (NIU), where she is currently pursuing her PhD. She has worked as a clinician at NIU’s Psychological Services Center and in a partial hospitalization program, where she has gained experience serving clients with a variety of presenting concerns in individual and group therapy settings. At the OCD & Anxiety Center, Katie is comfortable working with children, teens, and adults who struggle with all kinds of anxiety disorders and OCD. She incorporates supportive others, parents and families into the treatment process as she sees fit. She is a member of the International OCD Foundation and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
