Jenna's Take on Treatment

"Treatment is usually something we seek when things are going wrong, but that doesn’t mean it has to be all negative and serious. More often, I like treatment to be motivating, educational, and full of passion. My goal for treatment is to give you sustainable tools and confidence to manage your mental health, so that it takes up a smaller space in your life. That way, you can spend more time doing the things you love and being with the people you love."

Approach to therapy:

Michelle brings a collaborative, compassionately direct, and, at times, humorous and lighthearted approach to her therapy. She believes clients are the experts in their lived experience, and her role is to be a teammate who shares information and helps guide them to make positive changes. She recognizes that change often brings about fear or discomfort, and she empathetically helps guide clients through the change process, at whatever stage they may be. Michelle enjoys educating clients and their families on diagnoses and effective treatments. She practices using modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response and Prevention (ERP), and Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD. Michelle is comfortable doing exposures outside of the office and often includes parents and supportive others in the treatment process.  She is comfortable working with children, teens, and adults and specializes in treating all anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, and anxiety-related disorders. Michelle is also passionate about viewing clients through the lenses of their intersectional identities and exploring how those identities and how clients' surrounding environment impact mental health.

Experience and training:

Michelle started her educational training at the University of Michigan where she studied psychology and Spanish. She then moved to Boston where she received her master's in social work (MSW) and master's in public health (MPH) at Boston University. During graduate school, she participated in research projects focused on substance use disorder recovery and presented at public health conferences.
Michelle has diverse professional experience working in multiple levels of care from outpatient, to day programs, to residential levels of care. Before joining the OCD & Anxiety Center, Michelle worked with children, teens and adults struggling with mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, and eating disorders. Most recently, she worked in a residential partial hospitalization program where she worked with adults with mood and anxiety disorders regain daily functioning in their life and stabilize self-harm and suicidality. She enjoys working with all ages and finds herself most passionate when treating anxiety disorders and OCD.

More about Michelle:

Michelle was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, but in her adult life spent time living in Michigan, Massachusetts and abroad in Spain before moving back to Chicago. A fun fact is that Taylor Swift has been her top artist on Spotify wrapped for 5 years straight. She enjoys being active and being outside, usually spending time running on paths or exploring forest preserves with her dog.
