People diagnosed with hoarding disorder have difficulty discarding unneeded possessions. As a result, the resulting clutter is a source of distress as well as a health and safety risk for themselves and others. People who have this disorder may also experience the following:

  • Hoarders’ emotional connection to their possessions keep them from discarding, organizing, or making decisions about their belongings
  • Interventions from family and friends result in little to no improvement, even after forced cleanings or similar actions
  • Hoarding may cause distress or impairment at home or in other social settings including at work

Our experienced specialists at The OCD and Anxiety Center work with hoarders and their families to overcome this disorder and its effects. Both individual and group therapy are used as needed, and we help hoarders change their perception of themselves, their belongings, and reconcile with family members who have been affected by their behavior.
